Darryl's Story
In 1990, at just 19 years old, Darryl DuBre's life changed dramatically in an instant. Working on a job site, Darryl inadvertently came into contact with a 7200-volt power line, resulting in the loss of his arm and forever altering the trajectory of his life.
Over the decades that followed, Darryl lived firsthand with the limitations and frustrations of prosthetics based on century-old technology. He learned quickly that what was available wasn't built for active lives, real lives like his. Devices were either fragile, lacked functionality, or required frequent repairs, making it nearly impossible for amputees to engage confidently and fully in everyday activities.
Driven by this experience, Darryl became passionate about changing prosthetics for the better. He combined his lived experience as an amputee with a deep understanding of engineering and craftsmanship to help create prosthetic solutions that are strong, practical, and truly user-focused. As the Chief Technical Officer and co-founder of Marins, Darryl has committed his life's work to ensure no one else is faced with the same outdated choices that confronted him decades ago.
At Marins, Darryl's experience informs everything we do, from initial concept and design to field-testing and user feedback. His story is our story: a story of innovation, authenticity, and genuine care. Because he knows exactly what it means to rely on a prosthesis every single day, Darryl ensures that Marins' devices don't just look good on paper, they deliver where it counts: in real life.
