Delaware Recognizes Amputee Awareness Month

Marins Inc. is proud to share that Delaware officially recognized April 2024 as Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month through Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 147 of the 152nd General Assembly. Our team supported community outreach that helped move this recognition forward, highlighting the needs of people living with limb loss and limb difference across the state.

What SCR 147 affirms

  • More than 5.6 million people in the United States live with limb loss or limb difference.

  • About 2.2 million live with limb loss and 3.4 million were born with limb difference.

  • Each year, more than 500,000 people experience limb loss or are born with limb difference.

  • Diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and trauma account for the majority of amputations.

  • Prevention matters through diabetes management, timely wound care, and practical safety practices.

  • Access to appropriate prosthetic care helps people remain active, independent, and well.

  • The Amputee Coalition provides education, support, and advocacy through the National Limb Loss Resource Center.

  • April is a fitting month for awareness, reflection, and renewal.
